Inaugral Ties Planet Blog 'Tie of the Day'

Today's 'Tie of the Day' is a fine piece of neckwear from Simon Carter. It is priced at £40.00 and looks splendid.

Last night's London Evening Standard featured a story on Bell Pottinger Chairman Peter Bingle (pictured), who has been banned from London club Soho House for wearing a tie. The ban has been described as "Stalinist" by Mr Bingle, who has also labelled the whole affair as "Tiegate". Mr Bingle has our full support - we can't think of a situation where wearing a tie would be inappropriate.

Olympic Countdown On

It is exactly a year until the Olympic Games start in London. Those counting down the hours and minutes to this great event could certainly use an appropriate timepiece and at £50 this Simon Carter Watch won't set any world records for price!

Knotty Bear reliably informs us that the cheapest price he has seen the same watch at elsewhere is £65. He better be right or he will be for the high jump!

Duel on the Downs

Racegoers at Goodwood will be treated today with a contest between Frankel and Canford Cliffs. In The Times today Frankel's trainer Henry Cecil is described as 'a self-confessed dandy who wears pastel ties and socks' which is of undoubted interest to us.

The two horses are described as the 'finest milers in the world' and they are an impressive pair. The same can be said of these Horse Racing Novelty Cufflinks!

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Scrapped

After ten long years Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps has been scrapped. From some of the remarks made following the announcement it is difficult to see how the show lasted so long and fans are certainly keeping themselves well hidden!

Despite the demise of the TV 'comedy' show, both lager and crisps will remain popular for some time to come, which brings us onto these very fetching novelty cufflinks. Wearing these is sure to bring about an interesting talking point down the pub!

Ozzy Strikes Again!

Nothing that Ozzy Osbourne does should surprise us. But he has outdone himself this time by buying wife Sharon a dog for£6,500. If he is looking to accessorise then we have just the job - Simon Carter Crystal Scottie Dog Cufflinks.

Liang Wenbo Sparks Bow-Tie Row

There has been controversy at the Snooker World Cup. However, this doesn't relate to anything on the table. Rather, Ken Doherty expressed his anger that the dress code had been broken by his Chinese opponent Liang Wenbo.

Unfortunately we have to agree with Ken given that the violation was failing to wear a bow tie!

Had Liang wished to be more prepared, by buying a bow tie he would actually be proud to wear, he should have checked out! The website has a huge range of bow ties to suit all tastes.

Ties a Must for Edmonton Trend-Setters

The Edmonton Journal has run a feature story on the soaring popularity of ties amongst the fashion elite. Style icon Conor Pilz was spotted with his tie tucked into his shirt at an FC Edmonton football match. He describes this as a 'military tuck'!

The article also quotes two other tie-tuckers:

Alec Heffernan of Henry Singer is quoted as saying:

"There aren’t many days that I’ll wear it that way the entire day, but if we ever go out to eat it’s pretty common to tuck it in because it’s practical. You won’t be dropping your tie into your soup."

"If you’re doing some cleaning, or you’re eating, you tuck in your tie so it doesn’t get dirty," Phil Mottershead, a sales associate with Val Berg’s menswear, adds.

The article goes on to note that "ties are everywhere these days".

It has been another big weekend of sport. At Wimbledon Petra Kvitova and Novak Djokovic were crowned as new champions. David Haye was beaten on points by Wladimir Klitschko. The Tour de France is also well underway, which explains the photo of this Cycling Novelty Tie.
