The Barclays Premier League football season 2007/2008 kicked off this weekend with the usual first day flurry of goals and excitement.
The top flight's managers had smartened up for day one with 15 out of the 20 bosses wearing ties as they bellowed their instructions from the touchline. (75% of the population can't be wrong). Steve Bruce, Alan Curbishley, Martin O'Neill, David Moyes and Martin Jol, you are named and shamed as not wearing ties. *Hiss* *Boo*
Well, we are sure you all know the match results by now, but what about the outcome of the ties vs tracksuits? Here they are in full:
Martin O'Neill (No tie) 1 - 2 Rafa Benitez (Tie)
Sammy Lee (Tie) 1 - 3 Sam Allardyce (Tie)
Billy Davies (Tie) 2 - 2 Harry Redknapp (Tie)
David Moyes (No tie) 2 - 1 Chris Hutchings (Tie)
Gareth Southgate (Tie) 1 - 2 Mark Hughes (Tie)
Roy Keane (Tie) 1 - 0 Martin Jol (No Tie)
Alan Curbishley (No Tie) 0 - 2 Sven Goran Eriksson (Tie)
Arsene Wenger (Tie) 2 - 1 Lawrie Sanchez (Tie)
Jose Mourinho (Tie) 3 - 2 Steve Bruce (No Tie)
Alex Ferguson (Tie) 0 - 0 Steve Coppell (Tie)
Only one victory for a tracksuit manager, with four victories for tie wearers over their scruffier counterparts. Fine victories for Roy Keane's Sunderland and Sven Goran Eriksson's Manchester City. (Proof we feel that tie wearers are winners.)
Ice cool swede Sven wore the pick of the ties this weekend with a simple plain blue tie similar to the one pictured below.
