Tory MP Sorry After Novelty Tie Breaks Into Speech

Online retailer Ties Planet has offered to help MPs compete with Tory Nadhim Zahawi when it comes to neckwear.

The MP for Stratford on Avon’s musical tie burst into a tune lasting around 20 seconds as he spoke at a debate on the Educational Maintenance Allowance in England.

Labour rival George Howarth wittily began his own speech by saying:

“Unfortunately I don't think I'm going to be able to compete with the honourable gentleman with regards our respective ties!”.

However, this may not be true for much longer as Leeds-based Ties Planet has offered all MPs a 25% discount on tie orders until the end of the current tax year.

Managing Director Andrew Bragg commented:

“With MPs coming under close scrutiny over their pay and expenses we thought it would be a good idea to give them a break for once!”

One person who found the incident far from amusing was Deputy Speaker Dawn Primarolo, who snapped:
“Perhaps next time the honourable gentleman will be more selective in the ties he wears in the chamber and then we won't need the musical accompaniment.”

The MP for Morley and Outwood, the constituency where Ties Planet is based, is the high profile Ed Balls. The company is also located within minutes of Dewsbury, birthplace of Conservative Co-Chairman Sayeeda Warsi.
